Cruise description

7 Night Cruise sailing from Lyon roundtrip aboard A-Rosa Luna.

7 Night Cruise sailing from Lyon roundtrip aboard A-Rosa Luna.

Ancient ruins, wild horses and old men playing boules on the market squares. Many of the scenes you encounter on this trip look like they come from a picture book. It’s the same in the rustic, rural region of Burgundy, where the hillsides are covered in the most famous vines in the world, from Pinot Noir to Chablis. You will never tire of exploring the labyrinthine alleys of the medieval-Baroque-modern merchant city of Lyon. But you can certainly eat your fill because every corner of this city demonstrates why Lyon is known as “la ville de gueule”, or “the city of the mouth”. Then it’s time to lose yourself in picturesque Provence, where immediately even your own watch begins to slow down. Soak up the joie de vivre, the colours and the beauty of nature. And the fact that for once all of your holiday photos – even the ones you snapped with your mobile phone – could be published in a picture book.

Highlights of this cruise:

Lyon
The old town “Vieux Lyon” features Renaissance houses making it worthy of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is for gourmets too: Lyon is dubbed “la ville de gueule” – the gourmet town. Furthermore it is known for its high-quality silk products and the Basilica of Notre-Dame die Fourvière above the city.

Avignon
“On the bridge of Avignon, we all dance there” – the words of a folk song from the 15th century pay tribute to the unbridled joie de vivre at the foot of the Palace of the Popes. And this joie de vivre is still very much alive today.

Arles
Even if you haven’t yet paid the ancient Roman town a visit, you’re sure to recognise pictures of it. Vincent van Gogh painted Arles in 187 of his works. A few of his motifs have today been restored to their original state. The famous Camargue is also very close to Arles.

Chalon-sur-Saône
Record your memories on camera here – and spare a thought for Joseph Nicéphore Nièpce, who in 1826 took the first photo in the world with an eight-hour exposure time. Learn more at the Maison de la photographie. Nearby are the famous cities Beaune and Dijon.

Tournus
Tournus is a small town with a population of about 6000 inhabitants on the right bank of the Saône in the Burgundy region.  A major tourist attraction is the St Philibert Church built in Burgundian Romanesque style and dating back to the 11th century

Mâcon
Mâcon nowadays is known for being a vibrant and lively town. You can take a walk on the main business roads (Rue Carnot, Rue Dombey) for shopping or relax in one of the many cafes. The oldest building in Mâcon is located on the Place aux Herbes. The house is practically entirely covered with unique woodland sceneries.
